Abstract

This manuscript is an answer to a question that was sent to the author, Professor Youssef bin Muhammad Al-Battah Al-Ahdal, who died in the year 1346 AH from the land of Sudan. The questioner asks:About the ruling on seeking intercession through prophets, saints, and good deeds? The author answered that it is permissible to seek intercession through prophets and saints, and that it is permissible to seek intercession through good deeds. He provided evidence for this with a number of proofs and some narrations from some scholars who said that it is permissible to seek intercession through them. He also mentioned some scholars who said that it is not permissible to seek intercession through prophets and saints. The researcher went through these statements and their proofs and attributed them to their sources, relying on the descriptive approach based on induction, analysis, and deduction. He came out with the most important results, which are the permissibility of intercession with Allah Almighty through His names and attributes, through good deeds, through the supplication of a righteous man, through faith, and through love for the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He used to say, “O Allah, I seek intercession through my love for the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and my following of him.” He mentioned the permissibility of intercession through the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and through the saints, while believing that the doer is Allah Almighty and that He is the giver and the withholder. Whatever He wills will happen, and whatever He does not will will not happen.
